You would think after years of cooking and baking these conversions would stick in my head. But nope, they don’t. Time and time again I simply shout out to my husband “hey babe, how many cups are in a quart?’ And with zero hesitation he’ll shout out the answer, thank goodness I married a mathematician.

Common Equivalency Chart
- 3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon
- 4 tablespoons = 1/4 cup
- 8 tablespoons = 1/2 cup
- 1 cup = 1/2 pint
- 4 cups = 2 pints or 1 quart
- 4 quarts = 1 gallon
- 16 ounces = 1 pound
- Dash or pinch = less than 1/8 teaspoon (or the amout you can hold between your index finger and thumb)
Common Abbreviations
- tsp or t = teaspoon
- Tbsp / T / Tbl = tablespoon
- C = cup
- oz = ounce
- pt = pint
- qt = quart
- gal = gallon
- lb = pound
- # = pound
