- 1 pound shaved rib eye steak – it’s delicious from Trader Joes
- 1/2 small pear, peeled and grated – I used a microplane
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
- 2 or 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon gochujang (Korean red pepper paste) find at Kroger or Amazon
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced on the diagonal
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine pear, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger and gochujang. In a gallon size Ziploc bag, combine soy sauce mixture and steak; marinate for at least 2 hours to overnight, turning the bag occasionally. I found that using the shredded steak that I really need to massage it around to make sure all the steak was getting covered with the marinade.
- Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a cast-iron or heavy bottom grill pan over medium-high heat. Working in batches, add steak to the grill pan in a single layer and cook, flipping once, until it starts to brown. I left a little pink in the steak to make sure it did not get chewy and overcooked.
- Serve immediately. I like to serve this over rice, you could also add some sauteed veggies to the plate as well. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, if you’d like.
Notes
- Shaved rib-eye steak – If you don’t have a Trader Joes you could of course buy a rib-eye steak and cit thin your self. If you are taking that route, keep the steak in the freezer for a few minutes, cold meat is easier to cut thinly.
- I’ve also seen shaved steak at Kroger, I’ve just not tried it so I can’t accurately say how it tastes, but honestly, I buy their other meat all the time, I would image it’s just fine.
